Southern Fried Okra (Quick and Easy)

And best of all, it’s easy to make! So, let’s get started on this classic Southern recipe and whip up some delicious fried okra.

Ingredients  

  • 8 to 10 Pieces of Okra
  • 1/2 Creole Seasoning Adjust to taste
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 1/2 Cup Cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil

Instructions

  • First, you'll rinse and dry your okra before cutting into ¼-inch slices.
    8 to 10 Pieces of Okra
  • In a cast iron skillet or saucepan add vegetable oil. Allow the temperature to reach 350 degrees.

  • To a bowl with cornmeal add in your seasonings and mix well.
    1/2 Creole Seasoning, 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder, 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper, 1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
  • Dip the okra into the buttermilk and egg. I only dipped 4 to 5 pieces of cut okra at a time.
    1 Cup Buttermilk, 1 Egg
  • Place the okra into the cornmeal mixture.
    1 1/2 Cup Cornmeal
  • Once all pieces are coated, it's finally time to fry!
  • Add okra to the vegetable oil making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry the slices until golden brown – about 3 minutes on each side – before taking them off of the heat and serving hot as part of your favorite dinner or sweet summer lunch.
  • Remove from the oil using tongs and transfer to a paper towel lined plate to cool slightly before serving warm with your favorite condiments such as ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, etc and there you have it. Southern fried okra in a cast iron pan.
