Creamed Squash Old Fashion Southern Style

Ingredients  

  • 4 Yellow Summer Squash Sliced
  • 1/4 cup Butter Salted or Unsalted
  • 1 Teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Medium Onion Sliced into circles
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups Milk
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar Optional
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Wash and clean your squash making sure to remove all of the dirt. Pat dry then cut the squash into 1 inch pieces!

  • Add in your butter, onions, olive oil, and flour. Whisk together until flour is dissolved and the mixture thickens. This should take about 3 to 5 minutes.

  • Once the mixture has thickened, add the squash and milk into the pot. Stir until the squash is coated in the cream sauce. Season with salt, sugar, garlic powder, and pepper.
    1 1/2 Cups Milk, 1/2 Teaspoons Salt, 1/2 Teaspoons Black pepper, 1/2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder, 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • If you're using Parmesan cheese or cheddar cheese, stir it in now until it's melted and well combined.
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Cook the mixture for another 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until everything is cooked down to your desired texture.
