Southern Scalloped Potatoes

These easy southern scalloped potatoes are so rich and creamy! Filled with a creamy, rich sauce that is cooked up to perfection. Topped with crispy and crunchy deep-fried bacon. These potatoes are cut thinly, seasoned, and then tossed in creamy cheese sauce.

Ingredients  

  • 2 Pounds Russet potatoes cleaned and thinly sliced
  • 2 Cups Heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp Minced garlic Optional
  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Onion Chopped
  • 2 Tbsp Flour 1 Tbsp Cornstarch stirred into heavy cream if no flour
  • 1/2 Onion chopped
  • 1 Tsp Paprika
  • 1 Tsp Black pepper
  • 1 Tsp Sea salt
  • 2 Pieces Bacon Cooked
  • 1 Cup Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 Cup Sharp Cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees
  • Wash and dry your potatoes.
    2 Pounds Russet potatoes
  • Cook your bacon until golden brown
    2 Pieces Bacon
  • In a saucepan at medium-low temperature, add your butter, once melted add your minced garlic and chopped onions. Whisk in your flour until dissolved.
    2 Cups Heavy cream, 1 Tbsp Minced garlic, 4 Tbsp Butter, 2 Tbsp Flour, 1 Tbsp Onion
  • Whisk in your heavy cream and 1/2 cup of mozzarella, and sharp cheese until dissolved. Remove from the stove
    1 Cup Shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 Cup Sharp Cheese
  • Thinly slice your potatoes into circle pieces. Season your potatoes to your liking and sit to the side.
    1 Tsp Black pepper, 1 Tsp Sea salt, 1 Tsp Paprika
  • In a dish, add your potatoes.
    Next, then add your sauce mixture.
    Next, crumble bacon over the top of the potatoes.
    Lastly, add your remaining cheese. Place aluminum foil over the dish
  • Place in the oven for 30 minutes covered, then take the cover off and place back in the oven for 30 minutes uncovered or until the potatoes become tender
  • Add your chopped chives and enjoy
