Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Ground Beef Shaped Thinly(6 to 8 Patties)
  • 1/2 Stick Butter
  • Thick Bread Texas Toast
  • 6 to 8 Slices Swiss Cheese
  • 1 Large Sweet Onion Thinly sliced into circular pieces
  • 4 to 6 Slices Bacon Half and cooked
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 1 Teaspoons Black Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Season the ground beef with salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Drizzle in Worcestershire sauce and mix well. Next, shape it into a patty.
1 Teaspoons Kosher Salt, 1 Teaspoons Black Pepper, 1 Tablespoons Garlic Powder, 1 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce, 1 Pound Ground Beef
  • Cook the patty on the preheated skillet or griddle until it reaches your desired level of doneness. This usually takes around 4-5 minutes per side for medium.
  • While the patty is cooking, melt some butter in another skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and water to the skillet and sauté them until they become soft and caramelized approximately 10-15 minutes.
1/2 Stick Butter, Thick Bread, 1/2 Cup Water, 1 Large Sweet Onion
  • Once the patty is cooked, transfer it to a plate and wipe the skillet clean. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet and top it with the cooked patty and bacon. Add a slice of cheese on top of the patty and then spoon some sautéed onions on top of the cheese.
6 to 8 Slices Swiss Cheese, 4 to 6 Slices Bacon
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
  • Cook the sandwich for a few minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Remove the patty melt from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing it in half..
  • Serve your Waffle House patty melt with your favorite condiments, such as ketchup or mustard.

Notes

Tips
  • Type of Ground beef- The best type of ground beef to get when cooking Waffle House patty melts is 80/20. That’s 80 percent lean and 20 percent fat. This will help with creating a juicy burger!

  • Medium Rare- I do believe that medium rare is the best way to enjoy a patty melt. This is done by making sure the internal temperature has reached between 130 to 135 degrees.

  • Bread- It is imperative that you choose thicker bread when creating this patty melt. Using thinly sliced bread or easily torn bread will make the meal less enjoyable.
