The holidays are here, so let’s put together this easy 15-minute gravy, which is tasty enough to be on the table of goodness for any holiday dinner!
Okay, so I know you have heard this before but let me tell you again!! Homemade gravy is unquestionably the way to go when preparing to smother or drizzle over any meat. I love to add this gravy on my smothered cube steak (insert) or with my creamy garlic mashed potatoes (insert). Anyway, you get the point.
How to make easy 15 Minute Gravy brown gravy?
Gravy can be made from the left-over drippings from your meal, or you can make it entirely from scratch. I will teach you how to make it totally from scratch.
How long can you keep brown gravy in the refrigerator?
I keep my gravy in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days. I've heard of others storing it in the freezer for about 3 to 4 months, and it is just as yummy. I have never tried this out, though. Maybe someday I will test that technique.
Can you substitute the beef broth in this recipe with anything?
Yes, you can substitute the beef broth with bouillon cubes, vegetable or chicken broth, and even milk, just to name a few.
You can add several ingredients to your gravy to spice it up. For instance, you can add in chopped mushrooms, onions, parsley, peppers, and garlic. You name it! Pretty much any ingredients you like can go into gravy. Because gravy is so versatile, it is near and dear to my family’s heart!!
Now that we have covered the basics of gravy. LOL. Let’s get this show on the road, shall we?
Tip:
Don’t leave your gravy unattended because it may burn, and then you will have to start completely over.
Step 1:
Turn on stove to medium-low.
Step 2:
In a frying pan, add butter and onions
Optional: I prefer to add onions for flavor.
Step 3:
Once the butter has melted, add the flour. Stir the flour until it dissolves and turns brown.
Warning: Continue stirring and reduce the heat.
Step 4:
Add the black pepper, salt, and garlic powder.
Step 5:
Add the beef broth or any other broth you would like. Continue to stir until the gravy thickens.
Optional:
Add any herbs that you choose at this point.
Step 6:
Now drizzle or drowned your meat in this tasty gravy!
