Who doesn’t love succulent smothered turkey wings that fall off the bone? I know that I do. These homemade soul food turkey wings are a big deal around my house. They are healthy and packed with a tremendous amount of flavor and protein, making the perfect hearty family meal.
Reasons To Make Smothered Turkey Wings
- Tasty and Juicy—These baby turkey wings are the best because they have just the right amount of zest, texture, and tenderness.
- Lots of flavor—After being roasted to a golden brown perfection, the turkey wings are simmered in a delicious blend of chicken broth, spices, and herbs. They are as tasty as my baked turkey or lemon pepper turkey wings.
- Simple Ingredients—This recipe uses simple ingredients that are easy to find at your local grocery store, such as basic seasonings such as garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
Grocery Store List
Turkey Wings- I know there are some enormous turkey wings, but I try to stick to the smaller ones.
Cajun Seasoning- I used a small amount of cajun seasoning for these soul food turkey wings. You can use as much as you like. Just remember they may be a bit spicy.
Other Seasonings-Garlic Powder, pepper, chicken bouillon, and salt. These are the perfect combinations of seasonings.
Olive Oil- Used to rub onto the turkey wings and blend the seasonings in better.
Green bell peppers- Add in a ton of flavor and texture.
Onions- Also add a great deal of flavor.
Butter- We all know that wings can be pretty tough, but butter helps soften the turkey meat.
Cornstarch- Helps to thicken the turkey gravy.
Chicken Broth- The base of the turkey gravy. There is no need to make turkey drippings for this recipe.

Smoked Turkey Wings- The pre-smoked turkey wings work well with this recipe as well.

Common Questions
Where to buy turkey wings?
Buying turkey wings can become pretty complicated. They are seasonal, so they may not be available all year. I’ve been lucky enough to find them in a few places. A meat market and your local grocery store are good places to start. If you have a Food Lion in your area, you can ask the meat department if they have some in the back.
Questions
What sides go with smothered turkey wings?
I love having green beans and rice with my smothered turkey wings.
How to fold turkey wing flats?
Turkey wing flats remind me of chicken drumsticks. You must only gently fold the turkey wing and tuck it under the thickest part.

I have an Instantpot, are they able to be partially cooked there and crisped in the oven after? Thanks
Yes, You can use an instant pot. I would only sear them on the stovetop or place them in an instant pot with oil. Not much oil(2 Tablespoons)
Can I just say that I love that you put the measurements underneath each step of the instructions. I always have to scroll back up to see the measurements, so this is awesome! I can’t wait to try these!
