Apple fried pie is a delicious recipe you can throw together in minutes. Its sweet and savory filling elevates this recipe to the next level. It’s so easy to create, and I can’t wait to share this gooey goodness with you.
What is apple fried pie?
So, here is what I can tell you about old-fashioned fried pies! They are made with a delicious pastry dough commonly used to make sweet fruit-filled pies. This classic recipe is known for its flaky texture and buttery flavor. The dough is typically a homemade pie crust made with flour, butter, or shortening, but in this recipe, I will show you step-by-step instructions for making apple filling and store-bought pie crust. Easy, right?
Ingredients
Pie Dough Sheet—I used the Pillsbury dough sheet for this apple-fried pie.
Vegetable Oil- You will need about 1 inch of oil to get that crisp, flaky texture.
Apple Pie Filling- A can of apple pie filling makes this recipe even more accessible. It reminds me of apple pie recipes but without all of the work. No potato masher is needed. Easy peasy.
Butter—This will help to bring out all of the flavors once you remove them from the hot oil.
Brown Sugar- This step is optional but recommended. Using brown sugar complements the apple pie filling.
Powdered Sugar- Another optional step that will help bring in a ton of flavor to your Southern fried pie dough.
All-Purpose Flour- This is needed to ensure the dough doesn’t stick to the counter.

Substitutions/ Variations
Biscuit Dough—You can always use canned biscuits if your local grocery store doesn’t have pie dough sheets. You will need a rolling pin to flatten the dough.
Fresh Peaches—Switch up the recipe and make fried peach pies; use fresh peaches, crisp apples from an apple orchard, or Granny Smith apples. 😀 You will need a recipe for the fresh fruit glaze. I will link one here. Oh, and try to stay away from dried apples.
Cinnamon Sugar—If you don’t have brown sugar, you can use cinnamon sugar. They are very similar in taste.
