Every time I make these potatoes, my family literally licks their plates clean. My kids are obsessed with creamy cheese mashed potatoes because they are so delicious! I swear I’m going to wake up one day to find they have turned into potatoes.  ?

Seriously these potatoes are that delicious. I regularly get requests from my family to make my homemade mashed potatoes. So, listen, I’m going to bless you with this quick recipe, okay? You will never have to open another box of store brought mashed potatoes in your life! So, let’s jump in and talk about these potatoes!

I always pour some gravy over my mashed potatoes. Then I will serve my smothered cube steak! Another dish I like to add with these potatoes is fried pork chop—Yummy in my tummy.

what kind of potatoes to use?

There is a certain kind of potatoes you should use when making mashed potatoes. Don’t go to the store and grab just any kind because all potatoes aren’t good for making creamy cheese mashed potatoes. The best type to get is russet or Yukon gold potatoes.

How long to boil the potatoes?

You should let the potatoes boil for about 10-15 minutes. You will know they are done when you can easily pierce a potato with a fork.

Can you load cheesy mashed potatoes?

Yes, you can. That’s the beauty of mashed potatoes; you can add anything into the mixture: Bacon, sour cream, and peppers. You can add anything you find to be tasty.

Equipment you will need for creamy cheese mashed potatoes

You can use three different things, because they all will give you good results with the mashed potatoes.

 1. A potato masher

A tip I use this combined with an electric hand mixer as that makes the potatoes a lot fluffier.

Steps to cooking mashed potatoes 

Step 1:

Wash your potatoes and dry them with a napkin.

Step 2:

Cut the potatoes into pieces—four depending on how big your potatoes are.

Step 3:

Place the potatoes in a big pot and add water, garlic, butter, and salt. Add just enough water to cover the potatoes.

Fried Turkey-dinner

Warning:

Don’t fill the pot too close to full because once it starts boiling, it will flow over, and you don’t want that!

Step 4:

Let the potatoes boil until you can easily stick a fork through the potatoes.

Step 5:

Drain the water off of the potatoes. 

Step 6:

Place the potatoes in a big bowl, or you can keep them in the pot and then add in black pepper, salt, garlic, and hot milk.

Step 7:

So, begin to mash the potatoes

Tip: Taste your mashed potatoes to make sure they’re to your liking.

Step 8:

Add in cheese and now grab your hand mixer and combine until the potatoes are fluffy.  To make these creamy cheese mash potatoes even better pair this recipe with my gravy or deep fried turkey.

  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1/2 tbsp Garlic powder To your liking
  • 1/2 tbsp Salt To your liking

  • 1 7oz Gouda cheese To your liking
  • 1/2 8oz Sharp cheddar cheese To your liking

Instructions
