  • Ground Beef—Try to go for the 80/20 ground beef. This will give these protein-packed hamburger patties a lot of flavor.
  • Seasonings- Onion powder, garlic powder, seasoning salt, and black pepper.
  • Worcestershire Sauce- This is optional, but it helps bring all the spices and flavors together.
  • Olive Oil- To sear your ground beef patty.
  • Sweet Onion- Helps to bring in that aromatic smell and taste.  
  • Butter- The butter works well with the ground beef in this hamburger steak with gravy and onions.
  • Beef Broth- To thicken the gravy.
  • McCormick Gravy Seasoning: You can make your gravy from scratch with a little bit of flour and broth, but I love the packet gravy myself.

How to make hamburger steak with onions and gravy?

  • Gather all of your ingredients
  • Add your ground beef to a bowl.
  • Add all your seasonings (onion powder, garlic powder, seasoning salt, and Worcestershire sauce).
  • Mix those ingredients into your ground beef well.
  • Form your beef into patties into circles. Try not to go any bigger than the palm of your hand.
  • Add butter, olive oil, and onions to a medium-high skillet. Allow the butter to melt.
  • Add your beef patties. Once they cook for 5 minutes on both sides, take them out and set them to the side.
  • To the same skillet, add your beef broth and slowly stir in your gravy packet.
  • Add the patties back into the pot while stirring gently. At this point, you want to season it to taste.
  • Turn the stove to medium-low. Place a top over the hamburger steak and simmer for 5 minutes.

  • Smothered over a bed of white rice.

  • Salad style is a great way to spruce up this meal. Break the beef into pieces and add it to a bed of lettuce.
  • Serve over a plate of steamed veggies to get in your protein and fiber simultaneously.

  • 2 lb Ground beef More if you like
  • 1 Teaspoon Seasoning Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder
  • 3 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 1/2 Cups Beef Broth
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Butter

Hamburger Gravy

  • 1 Medium Sweet Onion Sliced
  • 4 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • Pinch Salt To your liking
  • Pepper To your liking
  • Garlic Powder To your liking
  • Seasoning Salt To your liking
  • 1 Pack Brown Gravy I suggest McCormick(not sponsored)


  • To a bowl, add your ground beef
    2 lb Ground beef
  • Add in all of your seasonings
    1 Teaspoon Seasoning Salt, 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder, 1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder, 3 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • Mix those ingredients into your ground beef well. Form your beef into patties
  • Add oil and butter to a preheated cast iron pan (medium-high temperature)
    1 Tablespoon Olive Oil, 1 Teaspoon Butter
  • Next, Add in your beef patties and allow to cook on both sides for about 5 minutes.
  • Once the patties have cooked for 5 minutes on both sides. Take them out and sit them to the side.

Steps to the gravy recipe

  • In the same pot, add in your butter along with your onions and allow that to cook for 2 minutes
    4 Tablespoon Butter, 1 Medium Sweet Onion
  • Add in your flour and gravy pack and stir until it dissolves.
    1/4 Cup Flour, 1 Pack Brown Gravy
  • Once things dissolve, add in your beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and stir.
    1 Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce, 1 1/2 Cups Beef Broth
  • Season your gravy to your liking
    Pinch Salt, Pepper, Seasoning Salt, Garlic Powder
  • Add back in your beef patties and let simmer on medium-low for 5 minutes!
