Stuffed meatloaf ingredients
  • I used ground beef in this recipe, but you can easily use ground turkey meat
  • If you’re like me and prefer your stuffed meatloaf to hold together, then using eggs is a must. They act as the perfect binder. Don’t worry; you won’t end up with an egg-stuffed meatloaf. The ingredients work harmoniously to create a delicious dish.
  •  I kept the seasonings simple. You don’t have to go to the Jamaican islands for it. (garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning).
  • Do yourself a favor and take advantage of the onions. Sweet onions and bell peppers 🫑 do their thing in this cheese-stuffed goodness.
  • I used Worcestershire sauce to add a tanginess that will make you say, wait, is this heaven? Yes, that’s that good!
  • If you want that mind-blowing cheese pull, I always suggest fresh mozzarella.

How To Make Stuffed Meatloaf?

Making the mozzarella meatloaf is a breeze. I stumbled upon this recipe on Betty Crocker’s website and decided to twist it. Here are the straightforward steps:

Gather all of your ingredients to ensure you won’t leave any ingredients out. Next, Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Let’s get cooking! Start by adding your ground beef to a mixing bowl. Then, sprinkle in your seasonings, finely chopped onion, and bell pepper. Crack in an egg, and add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, milk, and BBQ sauce. Once all the ingredients are in the bowl, mix everything well until it’s evenly combined.

Transfer your meat to a baking dish. Next, form your meatloaf into an oval, directly forming a 4-inch hole. Place the cheese in the hole and cover it with the remaining meat.

In a separate bowl, add the ketchup, brown sugar, and honey BBQ. Mix well—smooth half of the mixture over the uncooked meat. Cover the meatloaf with aluminum foil and bake in the oven for 40 minutes.

After that round of baking is done, go ahead and add the remaining sauce and place it back into the oven until done. It can be somewhat pink or fully browned inside. It’s your preference.

Substitutions/Variations

Vegan- You can go vegan with this recipe using vegan meat like impossible meat.

Veggies-You can bake in veggies such as spinach, colorful bell peppers, and chopped mushrooms, to name a few.

Bacon– A game changer. Add some cooked bacon to the mixture of this mozzarella-stuffed meatloaf. Don’t overcook the bacon.

Breadcrumbs- You can use regular oats or panko bread crumbs if you don’t have Italian breadcrumbs.

Faqs/Questions

My grandmother hated dry meatloaf. She would leave the beef slightly pink to get the full flavor and not have dry meatloaf.

The juicy beef stays together forever With all the binding agents, like eggs and sometimes breadcrumbs. Lol, we aren’t doing fall-apart meatloaf over here.

I used ground beef for this recipe, but you don’t have to. You can use ground turkey meat, and I promise you that if you season this meatloaf recipe with the same seasonings I listed above, it will taste just the same. Remember that turkey meat will dry after a while, so it may become challenging to reheat this stuffed meatloaf.
