  • Chicken thighs are the star of the show. If you can’t find them, go for the boneless, skinless chicken thighs version.
  • Now, if you want to taste a dish filled with a deep-down South experience, add the onions to the mix. This will create a tasty onion gravy that will knock your socks off!
  • Have your butter ready! The butter makes these thighs taste extremely rich in flavor!
  • The seasonings work together to create the perfect meal that the whole family will love, and you still have enough leftovers for meal prep. Here are the seasonings to make that simple homemade spice rub.

How To Make southerb baked chicken

Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees. This will ensure that the chicken dinner will have a proper chance to cook thoroughly.

Wash and pat your meat dry with a paper towel. This will ensure that the seasonings stick well onto the chicken pieces.

Add the seasoning and olive oil to a bowl and mix well. Rub the mixture thoroughly into the chicken skin, ensuring it covers all sides.

Begin adding the chicken thighs to the baking dish, skin side up. Next, add the chopped unsalted or salted butter 🧈 along with the onions. Add a couple of layers of the honey BBQ. Place in the oven and bake until the skin gets a little crispy, about 30 minutes.

After removing it from the oven:

  • Lather your BBQ sauce mixture over the chicken.
  • Pop it back into the oven.
  • Allow it to cook until the skin is nice and crispy or your desired consistency.

Switch Things Up

Let’s say you don’t want the sauce for these old-fashioned Southern baked chicken thighs. You can keep all the steps and skip the sauce and the extra baking time.

Add sweet peppers to the party. Get creative. Red, orange, and yellow make it festive, healthy, and fun.
